Wedding Venues in Kent — My Honest Guide
I’m James, a Kent wedding photographer based in Ramsgate. I’ve photographed weddings across the county for years — from coastal barns in Whitstable to historic manors near Canterbury, wildlife reserves, walled gardens, and everything in between.
This isn’t a generic list pulled from a directory. Every venue on this page is somewhere I’ve actually worked, and every recommendation comes from behind the camera. I’ll tell you what each place is actually like to photograph at — the good stuff, and the honest stuff too.

The Old Kent Barn — Swingfield, near Folkestone
One of Kent’s finest barn venues — bright, open, and beautifully finished. The team (ask for Ashleigh!) are some of the best in the business. Gardens, Pavilion, and a New Barn that looks incredible in every season. Christmas weddings here are something special.

Cooling Castle Barn — Cooling, near Rochester
The only wedding venue in Kent where you can photograph a couple against the backdrop of an actual medieval castle. The 14th-century ruins of Cooling Castle sit right on site, providing a genuinely dramatic and historic setting. The restored barn is warm and beautifully finished. A venue unlike anything else in the county.

Winters Barns — Canterbury
A beautiful, romantic venue in the Kent countryside with traditional character. The ivy-covered oak door and little pond are a golden hour portrait photographer’s dream. On-site accommodation makes it ideal for couples who want a full weekend. Sophie runs the show and she’s brilliant.

Wilderness Weddings — Kent
Not your conventional venue — and that’s the point. Outdoor ceremony beside a beautiful lake, evening reception in a stunning tipi. The light at sunset over the open fields is extraordinary. Every wedding I’ve shot here has delivered.

Port Lympne — Lympne, near Hythe
Set within a 600-acre wildlife reserve. Getting ready in the hotel, ceremony in the grounds, portraits in the Moroccan garden which is genuinely one of the most stunning settings in Kent. The safari truck at sunset with your guests is something I’ll always want to photograph.

Preston Court — Bridge, near Canterbury
A restored 17th-century barn with a vintage fairground, lakeside island gazebo, and glamping fields — all in one place. The island ceremony setting surrounded by water is one of the most striking in Kent. If you want your wedding to feel like a unique event rather than a template, this is it.

East Quay — Whitstable
Perched on the working harbour in Whitstable, with floor-to-ceiling windows, raw industrial charm, and a view of the sea that changes all day. Portraits on the shingle against open sky and boats. When the harbour lights come on at dusk, it gets even better.

Westerham Golf Club — Westerham
It sounds corporate on paper. In person it doesn’t feel that way at all. The ceremony room is warm and elegant, the grounds and manicured gardens are clean and spacious for portraits, and the reception overlooking the golf course is one of the nicer rooms I’ve worked in.

Chapel House Estate — Minster
Contains the oldest building in Thanet, recently renovated throughout. Intimate, full of genuine character, and perfectly placed for couples in Ramsgate, Margate, and Broadstairs. A venue I have an upcoming booking at and one I’m genuinely excited about.

Broome Park Hotel — near Canterbury
A grand 17th-century manor with sweeping grounds and an Italian garden that is genuinely one of the most photogenic portrait settings in the county. Crumbling stonework, overgrown classical features, archways. A venue where the photography really earns its keep.

A world-class modern art gallery on the Margate seafront. Clean lines, floor-to-ceiling glass, natural light from every angle. Up to 120 guests. For couples who want something culturally significant rather than a country house.

A beautiful historic house with genuine elegance and varied grounds — formal gardens, open parkland, and a warmth that puts couples at ease almost immediately. Every time the light drops here it delivers.

Port Lympne — Lympne, near Hythe
Set within a 600-acre wildlife reserve, Port Lympne is an experience as much as a venue. The Moroccan garden is one of the most stunning portrait settings in Kent, and the sunset safari truck ride through the reserve creates moments unlike anything else I’ve shot in the county.

Intimate Wedding Venues in Kent
If you’re planning a smaller celebration — think under 50 guests, or even a micro wedding with just your closest people — Kent has some quietly brilliant options.
Albion House in Ramsgate seats around 30 for a ceremony and has a beautiful townhouse feel: all period details and candlelit rooms. The Cow Shed at Quested Court suits couples who want something rural and relaxed without the fuss of a large country house.
The big advantage of an intimate venue is that your photographer (and everyone else) can actually focus on you. There’s no crowd to manage, no vast room to fill. The moments tend to be quieter, more personal, and honestly? Often the easiest days to photograph.
