Kent Wedding Venues: My Honest Guide
I’m James, a Kent wedding photographer based in Ramsgate. These are the Kent wedding venues I know best, from a wildlife reserve near Hythe to historic manors near Canterbury. Every one is somewhere I’ve actually shot, so I’ll tell you what each place is really like to photograph at, the good and the honest.

The Old Kent Barn, Swingfield near Folkestone
One of Kent’s finest barn venues, bright, open, and beautifully finished. The team (ask for Ashleigh!) are some of the best in the business. Gardens, Pavilion, and a New Barn that looks incredible in every season. Christmas weddings here are something special.

Cooling Castle Barn, Cooling near Rochester
The only wedding venue in Kent where you can photograph a couple against the backdrop of an actual medieval castle. The 14th-century ruins of Cooling Castle sit right on site, providing a genuinely dramatic and historic setting. The restored barn is warm and beautifully finished. A venue unlike anything else in the county.

Winters Barns, Canterbury
A beautiful, romantic venue in the Kent countryside with traditional character. The ivy-covered oak door and little pond are a golden hour portrait photographer’s dream. On-site accommodation makes it ideal for couples who want a full weekend. Sophie runs the show and she’s brilliant.

Wilderness Weddings, Kent
Not your conventional venue, and that’s the point. Outdoor ceremony beside a beautiful lake, evening reception in a stunning tipi. The light at sunset over the open fields is extraordinary. Every wedding I’ve shot here has delivered.

Port Lympne, Lympne near Hythe
Set within a 600-acre wildlife reserve. Getting ready in the hotel, ceremony in the grounds, portraits in the Moroccan courtyard which is genuinely one of the most stunning settings in Kent. The safari truck at sunset with your guests is something I’ll always want to photograph.

Preston Court, Bridge near Canterbury
A restored 17th-century barn with a vintage fairground, lakeside island gazebo, and glamping fields, all in one place. The island ceremony setting surrounded by water is one of the most striking in Kent. If you want your wedding to feel like a unique event rather than a template, this is it.

East Quay, Whitstable
Perched on the working harbour in Whitstable, with floor-to-ceiling windows, raw industrial charm, and a view of the sea that changes all day. Portraits on the shingle against open sky and boats. When the harbour lights come on at dusk, it gets even better.

Updown Farmhouse, near Deal
A restored 17th-century farmhouse hired exclusively to you, with a restaurant, barn, pool and rooms to stay in. Unhurried and personal, with a proper house-party feel.

Westerham Golf Club, Westerham
It sounds corporate on paper. In person it doesn’t feel that way at all. The ceremony room is warm and elegant, the grounds and manicured gardens are clean and spacious for portraits, and the reception overlooking the golf course is one of the nicer rooms I’ve worked in.

Pierremont Hall, Broadstairs
Pierremont Hall is an 1785 Georgian villa in the heart of Broadstairs, with tall windows, chandeliers and a garden, a short walk from the beach. It holds up to 70 guests, so it feels intimate and personal.

Chapel House Estate, Minster
Contains the oldest building in Thanet, recently renovated throughout. Intimate, full of genuine character, and perfectly placed for couples in Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs. I look forward to taking a dip in their new natural swimming pond when it’s completed! Perfect for a pre wedding dip.

The Gardens at Yalding, near Maidstone
Twelve acres split into sixteen landscaped gardens, with a barn, tipis and several ceremony spots. It’s exclusive use, so the whole place is yours for the day. For photography that means endless backdrops without leaving the grounds, and the festoon lights at dusk are a gift. Perfect for couples who want a garden wedding with room to wander.

Broome Park Hotel, near Canterbury
A Grade I listed 1635 manor house in 65 acres of parkland, once home to Lord Kitchener. The Italian garden, with its crumbling stonework and archways, is one of the most photogenic portrait spots in Kent, and everyone can stay over.

Albion House, Ramsgate
A boutique clifftop hotel in the heart of Ramsgate, Albion House is one of East Kent’s most characterful wedding venues. Georgian interiors, sea views from the rooftop terrace, and an intimate atmosphere that bigger venues simply can’t replicate. Perfect for couples who want something personal and a little unexpected.

Mount Ephraim Gardens, Hernhill near Faversham
A family home owned by the Dawes family since 1695, with Edwardian gardens, a Japanese bridge and a sweeping staircase that does half the work for you. You can marry in the house or the gardens, and there’s room to stay for up to 22 guests. Elegant but personal, with plenty to work with whatever the weather.

Intimate Wedding Venues in Kent
If you’re planning a smaller celebration, think under 50 guests, or even a micro wedding with just your closest people, Kent has some quietly brilliant options.
Albion House in Ramsgate seats around 30 for a ceremony and has a beautiful townhouse feel: all period details and seaview rooms. The Vines of Rochester suits couples who want something more quiet and relaxed without the fuss of a large country house. Pierremont Hall offers intimate ceremonies in an ideal location.
The big advantage of an intimate venue is that your photographer (and everyone else) can actually focus on you. There’s no crowd to manage, no vast room to fill. The moments tend to be quieter, more personal, and honestly? Often the easiest days to photograph.

How far in advance should I book a Kent wedding venue?
12-36 months for popular venues, particularly for peak season dates (May to September). Some of the smaller exclusive-hire venues like Updown Farmhouse book up faster than you’d expect.
