Wedding Photographer Thanet

Getting married in Thanet

Thanet is home. I’m based in Ramsgate, and I’ve been photographing weddings across Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate for years — not because I followed the work here, but because I already lived here when the work found me.

The coastline, the light, the specific energy these towns have — I know it intuitively. There’s nowhere else in Kent quite like it. The quality of light on the Thanet coast is genuinely different: open, coastal, the kind that makes photographs look like they were taken somewhere special without any effort. Turner knew it. I know it too.

How I work

My approach is documentary. I work quietly through your day, staying close but out of the way, letting things happen as they will. I’m not going to stop your wedding every ten minutes for formal shots — I’ll be moving through the day from getting ready through to the dancing, reading the room and catching real moments as they unfold.

I read people well. I know when to step in with a gentle nudge — a quiet word, a small suggestion — and when to disappear entirely and let things breathe. Most of the time it’s the latter.

There’s a short couples portrait session built into the day — usually around golden hour if the timing allows — but beyond that, what you get back is an honest record of how your day actually felt.

No stiff poses. No cheesy prompts. Just your day, properly documented.

Top Wedding Venues in Thanet

Thanet has some genuinely distinctive venues — a world-class gallery on the seafront, a 13th-century estate five minutes from the coast, Georgian townhouses with harbour views. I’ve shot at most of them. Check out my full Thanet wedding venues guide for honest write-ups of each one, or take a look at my broader Kent wedding venues page if you’re still exploring.

FAQ — Thanet Wedding Photographer

How far in advance should we book a wedding photographer in Thanet?

For peak dates — Saturdays between May and September — 12 to 18 months is sensible. I take on a limited number of weddings each year so I can give each one proper attention, which means I do fill up. If you’ve got a date in mind, it’s worth getting in touch sooner rather than later.

What are the best locations for wedding photography in Thanet?

Depends entirely on what you’re after. Turner Contemporary gives you extraordinary light and a modern, artistic backdrop. Ramsgate’s Royal Harbour is more intimate and characterful. For outdoor portraits, Botany Bay and Viking Bay are both genuinely beautiful — the chalk stacks at Botany Bay in particular photograph unlike anywhere else in Kent.

Do you offer engagement photography sessions in Thanet?

Yes — and I’d recommend it, especially if you’re not used to being in front of a camera. It’s a relaxed hour or so to get comfortable together before the wedding day. Botany Bay and Margate Old Town are both favourites of mine for engagement shoots.

How long does it take to receive our wedding photos?

I send sneak peeks within 48 hours — usually a handful of images that give you a feel for the day. Your full gallery is typically ready within four to six weeks.

Do you work with a second photographer?

For larger weddings or where you’ve got simultaneous moments happening in different locations, yes. Get in touch and we can talk through whether it makes sense for your day.

What photo spots do you recommend in Thanet?

Botany Bay for the drama. Viking Bay for the classic seaside feel. Margate Old Town for character and texture. Ramsgate’s clifftop and harbour for something more quiet and refined. I’m happy to advise based on your venue and the time of year — light and location work differently at different times of day and different seasons.
