Top Wedding Venues in Thanet

A Coastal Gem for Unique Wedding Venues

I’m James, a Kent Wedding Photographer based in Ramsgate. I’ve shot weddings at venues across Thanet for years, which means I know these places in a way that most venue guides don’t — not just what they look like on a styled shoot, but how they actually feel on a real wedding day. This is my honest guide to the best Thanet wedding venues.

Whether you’re after a striking coastal setting, a historic estate, or something a little unexpected, Thanet has more to offer than most couples realise. Here’s where I’d point you.

The Venues I’d Actually Recommend

Thanet doesn’t always get the credit it deserves as a wedding destination — but having photographed weddings here for years, I’d argue it has some of the most genuinely interesting venues in Kent. You’ve got a world-class art gallery on the seafront, a 700-year-old estate five minutes from the coast, a Georgian harbour-front townhouse and one of the county’s great historic parks, all within a few miles of each other. This isn’t a generic list pulled from a directory. These are venues I know — places I’ve worked at, walked around, and watched couples get married in. Here’s what I’d actually tell a friend.

Turner Contemporary, Margate

Turner Contemporary is one of the most distinctive wedding venues in Kent — a David Chipperfield-designed gallery right on the Margate seafront, with floor-to-ceiling windows, sea views, and an extraordinary quality of light. It’s named after J.M.W. Turner for a reason: the Thanet coast has a particular way with light, and the building is designed to make the most of it.

It suits couples who want something modern and genuinely different. The Foyle Rooms accommodate up to 150 guests, the terrace overlooks Margate’s main sands, and the gallery’s current exhibition becomes part of your backdrop — which means no two weddings here look quite alike.

Albion House, Ramsgate

Albion House is a beautifully restored Georgian townhouse overlooking Ramsgate’s Royal Harbour. It’s intimate — up to 70 guests — and it wears that intimacy well. The grand dining room, the private terrace, and those harbour views make it feel like a genuinely special, considered choice rather than a standard wedding package.

Being Ramsgate-based myself, it’s a venue I know well. The interiors are rich and warm, and the harbour setting gives you a coastal backdrop that’s quite different from the open sea views at Turner Contemporary — more sheltered, more characterful, particularly beautiful in the evening light.

Aberdeen House, Ramsgate

Aberdeen House is an elegant Georgian townhouse in the heart of Ramsgate, with grand rooms, high ceilings and gardens that accommodate up to 120 guests. It operates as a licensed wedding venue and registry office, making it a practical as well as beautiful choice for couples who want a Ramsgate wedding with real character. Refined and understated — the kind of venue that lets the day breathe rather than competing with it.

Chapel House Estate, Ramsgate

Chapel House Estate is the most exciting addition to the Thanet wedding scene in recent years. Set in 35 acres of grounds near Minster, it centres on a chapel that dates back to 1290 — one of the oldest structures in Thanet — and has been thoughtfully developed into a complete, exclusive-use wedding destination. I shot one of the first weddings here when it opened, and I’ve watched it grow into one of the most sought-after venues in East Kent.

The variety of spaces is what makes it exceptional: the historic chapel, the Wild Apple Orchard for outdoor ceremonies, the Glass Courtyard for evenings, and the Thorne Barn for receptions of up to 150. On-site accommodation for up to 38 guests means you can make a full weekend of it.

Choosing the Right Wedding Venue in Thanet

The most useful piece of advice I can offer as someone who photographs at these venues regularly: visit in person, and visit at the time of day your wedding will actually be happening. A venue that looks stunning in bright afternoon sunshine can feel completely different on a grey November morning. What matters is how it feels when you’re actually standing in it.

Think about your guest list size early — some of the most beautiful Thanet wedding venues are also the most intimate, and it’s better to know whether you need 70 covers or 150 before you fall in love with a space that can’t accommodate you. Consider whether exclusive use is important to you; venues like Chapel House Estate that operate on that basis create a noticeably different atmosphere to those running multiple weddings on the same day.

And if you’re still deciding between venues, feel free to get in touch. I’ve shot at most of the venues on this list and I’m happy to talk through the differences honestly.

FAQ — Thanet Wedding Venues

What are the best wedding venues in Thanet?

Turner Contemporary, Chapel House Estate, Albion House and Quex Park are among the most popular and most distinctive. The right choice depends entirely on your guest numbers, budget and the kind of day you’re planning — this list covers a range of styles and sizes.

Are there outdoor wedding venues in Thanet?

Yes. Chapel House Estate has the Wild Apple Orchard for outdoor ceremonies. Quex Park has extensive gardens. Turner Contemporary has a seafront terrace. For a fully outdoor celebration, Chapel House Estate is currently the strongest option in the area.

Is there wedding venue accommodation in Thanet?

Chapel House Estate offers on-site accommodation for up to 38 guests, making it the only venue on this list where you can have a full wedding weekend without leaving the estate. Albion House and St Augustine’s Court nearby offer hotel accommodation if on-site stays aren’t available.

How far in advance should I book a Thanet wedding venue?

For popular venues and peak dates (May–September, Saturdays), 12 to 18 months in advance is typical. Chapel House Estate in particular has been filling up quickly since opening. Booking earlier gives you more choice on date and, in some cases, on pricing.

Do I need to use a preferred photographer at Thanet venues?

Most venues in Thanet operate an open supplier policy, meaning you can bring your own photographer rather than choosing from an approved list. It’s always worth confirming directly with your venue.
