Wedding Photographer in Granada, Spain
A destination wedding in Granada
Spain has always held a special place for me — family holidays, sun, the kind of warmth that makes everything feel easier. When Jimmy and Sarah asked me to photograph their three-day celebration in Granada, I said yes immediately.
The moment I arrived I was struck by how relaxed everyone was. The Spanish climate — so different from England’s unpredictable weather — meant sunny skies and a carefree party from start to finish. Complimentary tapas and free drinks probably helped too.
The Venue
Granada gives you an extraordinary range of settings to work with — historic palaces with views of the Alhambra, hilltop villas with mountain backdrops, intimate courtyard restaurants. For Jimmy and Sarah, the choice suited them perfectly. What I’ll say is this: whatever atmosphere you’re after, Granada can match it. And the light — that warm, golden southern Spanish light — makes everything easier to photograph.
The pre-wedding meal
The night before the wedding I explored the city from my base at Plaza Nueva, scouting locations and talking through ideas with the couple. We met at the Mirador de San Nicolás — the famous viewpoint looking back across to the Alhambra — where I grabbed relaxed pictures of family and friends against that backdrop.
At the restaurant above the city, six tables of close family feasted on traditional dishes while unlimited sangria and wine flowed. After dinner I walked the brides back to their villa, then joined the other guests at a nearby bar for free tapas and more wine — documenting everything as the excitement built for the following day.
The pool party
The day after the wedding, we piled into an Uber bound for a dramatic hilltop villa — the kind of place that looks like it belongs in a film. Twisty mountain roads, sweeping views of snow-capped peaks, an outdoor pool, and external caterers laying on endless paella and sangria.
Then Billy from The Subways — one of my childhood friends — took to the makeshift stage. Everyone sang along. A belly-flop competition had the whole pool in stitches. When sunset arrived I photographed Jimmy and Sarah in backlit portraits, a champagne spray catching the light against the mountain backdrop.
These are the days I got into wedding photography for.
Thinking about getting married in Granada?
My approach — relaxed, documentary, unobtrusive — fits Granada perfectly. The city doesn’t need much help looking beautiful, and couples who choose to get married there tend to want a photographer who’ll capture the atmosphere rather than stage it.
From London, getting there is straightforward — fly into Malaga, then a coach or hire car to Granada. If you’re planning a destination wedding in southern Spain and want to talk through what that coverage looks like, get in touch.
